Introduction

I must admit, I always liked the classic - Sherlock Holmes style - murder mysteries, so I was really excited when I started playing this game. After an hour or so of playing I already had mixed feelings about it. I wouldn't say I was disappointed (at all), but I expected a little bit more.

Story

Our story takes place in London in 1888. The Scotland Yard requests our help in investigating a murder which appears to have been commited by Jack the Ripper. The odd thing about the case is, that up until now the Ripper was known only to 'hunt' in Whitechapel. So has he moved to a bigger territory or was the murder merely staged to look like a 'Ripper-killing'? The police take the easier path, but of course Holmes knows better.

Opinion

As I said in the intro, I have mixed feelings about this game. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I didn't like it (actually, I liked it very much), but I expected something a little bit more like Gabriel Knight. The story was kind of linear, but I could never see where the investigation was going. I was looking for things because I knew there was nothing else to do and not because they were vital to solving the mystery. Anyway, as you can see the graphics are really nice, I just wish I could say the same about the music. I could only listen to it in Adlib, but I've heard really good Adlib music before in other games (e.g. the mentioned Gabriel Knight), so it can be done. Well, this wasn't anywhere near good. The story is okay, but the puzzles could have been a little harder. But after all this criticizing, I still say I liked the game.
