Private Servers to be Available for Players in Dune: Awakening

Funcom announced that private servers are going to be available in Dune: Awakening starting at launch. This should be good news for those who are excited about this feature.

Initially, it was expected to be available post-launch. The studio shared in a post that progress had been "faster than expected."

How it Works

How does a private server work? When players rent a private server, they're basically renting a service that contains one Hagga Basin, much like in the official servers. A private server has the Hagga Basin map and players can do everything they would do on an official server.

The private server rented belongs to a World that's composed of other private servers. Players can choose a World for their private server when they rent from a provider. What this means is that players can continue to take full advantage of the game's large-scale multiplayer content and mechanics. These include visiting the social hubs and the Deep Desert. By the way, there's no need for players to rent or control social hubs nor even the Deep Desert. That's because these are provided by the server hosting company.

Private Server Settings

Since the private server belongs to a World of other private servers, players can meet and play with other people in the social hubs and the Deep Desert. Note that they won’t be able to control each aspect of how the private server works.

The settings players can configure for their server is ultimately up to the third-party server provider. However, the studio is making these settings available:

• Security Zones: Players can disable security zones entirely and make all parts of Hagga Basin PvP enabled. Players can also choose to have pockets of PvP like on official servers.

• Taxation: Players can disable taxation on their server.

• Sandstorms: Players can disable sandstorms and make them not appear on their server
